Tucson Summer Reading Club for grown-ups returns for year 2

Adults who grew up earning personal pan pizzas for reading books will be glad to know the tradition is back for another summer in Tucson.

Tucson Spotlight and Tucson Tome Gnome are returning for a second year of their adult summer reading club, this time with Pima County Public Library joining as a partner. Starting June 1, readers can pick up a reading tracker and book bingo card at their local library branch.

Prizes scale with how many books readers finish: a limited-edition sticker at five books, a sticker and bookmark at 10, and at 20 books, readers can earn a sticker, bookmark, magnet or button, a book or a pizza coupon redeemable at Coalition Space. Completing a bingo row earns a raffle entry.

Three events are planned: a book swap and kickoff at Coalition Space on June 7, a mid-summer book swap and market at Di Luna Candles on July 11, and an end-of-summer party at Coalition Space on Aug. 16, where prizes will be distributed.

"We started this because adults deserve a summer reading program too," said Caitlin Schmidt, editor and publisher of Tucson Spotlight. "Having the library come on board this year means we can reach so many more readers across the county."

Reading lists are available at library.pima.gov/SummerBooklists. End-of-summer prizes will be distributed at the end-of-summer party and individual branch parties on Aug. 16.
