Hurricane Priscilla has forced the cancellation of Saturday’s Arizona Fall League Tripleheader at Kino Veterans Memorial Stadium, ending the weekend’s games in Tucson.

The Tripleheader was set to mark the league’s first Tucson appearance in more than 20 years. It would have featured all six Phoenix-area teams from the Arizona Fall League, bringing top Major League prospects to Tucson.

“In speaking with the Arizona Fall League officials, we hope to continue a positive relationship in the future,” Sarah Horvath, director of the Kino Sports Complex and Stadium District, said in a news release.

Fans who purchased tickets to Saturday’s event have the option to either exchange them for tickets to the Arizona Fall League Home Run Derby on Nov. 8 and the Fall Stars Game on Nov. 9 in Mesa, or receive a full refund through the original method of purchase.

Ticketholders should keep an eye out for an email within the coming days and can email arizonafallleague@mlb.com with any questions.

“While we are disappointed in the decision to cancel this event, the safety of our players, staff, and fans is our utmost priority at this time," Arizona Fall League Director Chuck Fox said in a news release. “We hope to continue to foster a positive relationship with those in Tucson and at Kino Sports Complex in the future.”

While the canceled games won’t be played in Tucson, the league says every attempt will be made for them to be made up at a later date and at a new site.

While there won’t be any professional baseball in Tucson this weekend, fans won’t have to wait long to catch a game at Kino Stadium.

On Thursday, Oct. 16, the new Tucson Baseball Team will throw out the first pitch of its 34-game home season as part of the Mexican Pacific Winter League.

The Tucson Baseball Team will hold a “name-the-team” contest during the season. It’s the first club from the Liga ARCO Mexicana del Pacífico to be based in the United States.
