The Arizona Wildcats dropped the opening game of their home series to Texas Tech 9-5 Friday night at Hi Corbett Field, stranding 13 runners on base.

Arizona fought hard, collecting 10 hits and eight walks and coming back from an early 3-0 deficit to take a 5-4 lead in the middle of the game.

Catcher Caleb Danzeisen, first baseman Tony Lira and utility player Andrew Cain all had strong performances at the plate.

But the Red Raiders' offense picked up late, scoring three runs in the seventh inning and two in the ninth to pull ahead for good.
